Update - signing out for 2009
Seasons greetings everyone!! Thanks for your support (and positive harassment) this year!! 2009 has been a very long lesson in doing our housekeeping and getting this mother of all albums out!! Anyway time to let actions speak louder than words in 2010!!

Here is Studio Blog #10 for your perusal, a bit longer than the others, but we thought we would just throw it all in!! This mostly features the additional or special guests that played on the record.

The album cover has also been done. A very special friend of ours, Anne Marie, who has been a visual artist all her life, painted the album cover for us. Based on a few concept sketches Steve gave to her in charcoal, it will be a great piece for those who buy a physical copy of the CD. The album will also be distributed digitally through iTunes.

We are also playing a special 2hr set on New Years Eve with Tony Bourke at The Left Bank. Nearly all of the 2000 tickets are sold out!! We have cooked up a special medley in rehearsals for the occasion.
It should be a cracker!!

Anyway. See you next year!!

Back..again!

Apologies for those frustrated at the lack of updates but we had another server drama.

First of all, thanks to those who came out to see us at The One Movement for Music Festival gig 2009 , kudos to Sunset Events for putting on a great show.

The new album is entering the mastering phase. All the paperwork and artwork is being processed, refined, worked on, and a distribution deal is being etched out.
No solid release date yet, as it will depend on how quickly we can get our mastering engineer of choice booked and a deadline to follow.
The wait is nearly over. Thanks for your patience.

Whilst we have been busy doing final mixing on the new record we decided it would be good to get out and stretch our legs again, oil up the old machine and head out for a live show to get ourselves back into the swing before we drop the first single.

Saturday 29th August @ the RAILWAy HOTEL will see Tourist play with support from Epsilon and our good buddy Tommy Fisher, who is fresh back from a Eastside sojourn playing solo shows and as a touring member of The Go-Set

July News!!!
Whilst it may sound like a page out of ‘The Band Who Cried Wolf’, the new record is very close indeed. The last few weeks have been spent doing some embellishments on the record. We have had long time piano-associate Tone Bourke laying down his genius on his brand new Nord beast. Shane ‘Orts’ Orton came in with shirt and tie on, like Travolta circa Pulp Fiction-meets-Morris Day and The Time, drop some sticky-greasy-nutty-nutmeg backing vocals. The very beautiful Sib has put down some lovely vocal melodies.
Next week we are doing last minute tracking, including brass…Yes that’s right HORNS!

Next Month will see Tourist’s 1st Official U.S. release! With “Come Too Far” coming out on the ‘Rock 4 Life’ International compilation which will be released through iTunes/Napster/Walmart e.t.c. and will also reach U.S. College Radio playlists.

The Official Tourist Youtube Channel also has new videos uploaded on it. Studio Videoblog’s 1-7 are up showing some insight into recording this album and also some poor jokes, shenanigans and general tomfoolery!!!

New Album
Hello All, Stevo here!!

Hope all is well, wherever you are. Just dropping you all a line to keep you informed of what's going on in the world of Tourist and the album that seems like we should have finished by now.

As we finished 95% of the tracking of the 13 songs we have, it was fairly obvious to us that we needed access to some additional gear/technology that would catapult our sound into a more sonically rich and 'huge' production. The Tourist Studio set-up, (which we did the entire 'A Toast to..' E.p. on), whilst capable of capturing a good recording, has a few limitations which Glenn and us have become aware of, and the decision as it stands was to take all the tracks and put them through some really nice recording gear to do them justice.

Cue: Enter James Newhouse.
James is a really cool guy and a brilliant producer/engineer who has worked with tons of people in a production/engineer/tour manager capacity. His credits include Lior, Dave Mann Collective, Cat Empire... the list goes on and on. You can check out his myspace page at www.myspace.com/jamesnewhouse and look at his cred and check out his bio. We met James when we where out playing with DMC and I took a trip a while back and checked out his studio and had a good chat with him about our record. After a week or so of him listening to what we have, his enthusiasm and passion for Tourist and our songs has struck me right away. We did a vocal session and mix last week and the initial results have been very impressive. Next week the intensity will be lifting and we will get stuck into Dave finishing his vocals and mixing the record as we go along. Glenn will be working side by side with James so it will be a good learning experience for all. This album has been a dream for all of us to achieve and given the current climate of the music industry and possibly (but hopefully not) the death of the album format as it stands, we want to get this out...that is before we are all 9- digit social security numbers driving through MacDonalds to be downloading the latest force fed singles from artists creating mind controlling government endorsed cheese...(oops sorry wrong website)

Anyway it's getting exciting and we hope James fresh ears will bring these songs into a new light sonically. Get ready it's coming soon.

Here is a little (instrumental) teaser of a song called 'Ceasefire' which we put down late last year

This recording took place back in August 2006 featuring a mixture of material from 'The Places...' e.p. and a yet to be released 'A Toast to Absent Friends' at the time. This night was a full house at Mojo's and the band was on fire! Bringing back songs like 'Burden' and debuting some other gems into the set.
The band are still working away on the album with G.J. Snook on the boards and it is shaping up really nicely.

If you have not been receiving any Tourist news of late please log onto www.touristband.com.au and please subscribe once again to receive news and updates on shows e.t.c.

We have had a hard drive crash/hacker drama that had stopped temporarily our ability to update the site recently. This also contained many of the subscribers email addresses.

Happy New Year to all friends of Tourist and to new people to the band welcome to the family.

The album is coming along just fine, with Dave doing some vocals this week and the majority of guitars done on 8 or so songs. As stated before the next bunch of songs will be laid down in the coming month. Hopefully we can whip 15 or 16 songs into shape to then sequence into a record. Without a doubt there are some amazing stuff down already which showcases a new evolution of the bands sound and songwriting
talents. We promise to deliver in 2008. We are keeping our heads down and spirits up so we can can give some xtra-secret ancient recipe tourist hotsauce with some brand-new future on it.

We hope to drop the new album early 2008 and make the wait worthwhile. We want this album to represent the band in it's entirety and take you on a journey from start to finish!!!

News Update

Just a quick update on all things Tourist. The band have been busy finishing tracking on the next release. The plan has been to record 4-5 songs each sitting, let them sit and be mixed, overdubs e.t.c then proceed to the next four which we are currently about to start on. Hopefully this will leave us with a batch of songs to be fresh with and hopefully narrow down into an album format to have released this year. The recording process has been different this time, adding in the live feel of the band on the basic beds, which is sounding fresh and having that vibe that we believe makes the band what it is. In between shows and other commitments the new stuff is brewing and waiting to pop hopefully by the later months of 2007.
Cheers

Tourist WINS UK Radio Top Ten!!
'Hopeless' took out No. 1 track on the Whiteroom Ten competition on the Uk radio 1089fm Whiteroom show, hosted by Dave Courtney and Mike Mendoza. Thanks to all the fans who voted for the track. This is the largest commercial radio station in the UK and has 6 million listeners!!!!

Dave Courtney has worked with some of the legendary names in music such as: Roger Daltrey, Roger Chapman, Dave Gilmore, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore and Steve Cropper to name but a few. It is great to nominated by him to get into the Top Ten, but to win based on public opinion in the Uk against bands from all over the world is.... huge!!

A big applause must go out to Australian Music Correspondent Steve 'Shifty' Sheldon who has worked tirelessly from London to Perth, Brisbane to Fiji promoting unsigned music. Steve stumbled across Dave (vocals) & Steve (drums) playing an acoustic set in a Fremantle Hotel in late 2003 and with his cameraman on hand, (fresh from a meeting with a network) filmed an impromptu interview which became the feature of the debut episode of base.tv a documentary styled program on original music, which has now become the street press base.ad in Perth. Steve has been pitching for Tourist for a few years now and has always believed in us. So Thankyou Steve!!!

Thanks again for your votes and thanks to those who spread the word at work e.t.c. to get people to vote !!! 'Hopeless' as a song has done some great things; WAM song of the year finalist, high rotation on Nova 93.7 Perth for over 6 months, a spot on JJJ 'Roots and All' program as well as appearing on compilation cd's.

IN OTHER NEWS...

It was a Big Show with DMC!
Thanks to everyone that turned up to Mojo's on Friday night to see us help Dave Mann Collective rock the house for the launch of their brand new single.
It was a really fun night, we rocked out, shook off the performance cobwebs and had a ball at one of our favourite local venues. We also took the chance to debut two new songs "Hopeless" and "Oblivion" which I'm happy to say went really well.
Prita was first up with a luscious acoustic set and after we played our part, we grabbed a brew and watched The DMC at the top of their game. With a "sweet as" rhythm section laying the foundation, and Dave out front doing what he does best these guys are one of the must-see bands in Perth right now. It was great to play with them.
Once again thanks to all of our friends and family that came down to make the night a memorable one.

Don't forget; We are back down at Mojo's this Saturday night the 23rd of April doing it all again with our friends Dusk and Tommy Fisher in support!
